Selling Tips

Preparation Tips

1. Plan Ahead:

  • Start gathering and tagging items several weeks in advance.

  • Sort items by gender, category, and size for easier tagging and organizing.

2. Inspect Items Carefully:

  • Ensure all items are clean, functional, and free of stains, tears, or odors.

  • Replace batteries in toys and electronics to show they work properly.

  • Ensure pieces are not missing from games, toys, puzzles, etc.

3. Group Seasonal Items:

  • Focus on items appropriate for the season (e.g., swimsuits and sandals for spring/summer, coats and boots for fall/winter).

  • Seasonal items tend to sell better because shoppers are looking for what they need immediately.

Pricing Strategies

4. Price to Sell:

  • A good rule of thumb is to price items at 25-30% of the original retail price.

  • For brand-name or high-demand items, you can go slightly higher.

5. Bundle Small Items:

  • Group smaller items (e.g., onesies, socks, small toys) together in sets to add value.

6. Offer Discounts:

  • Check the "Discount" option when creating an item tag to include your items in the half-price sale during the final two hours of the event.

Presentation Tips

7. Clean and Press Clothes:

  • Wash, iron, and present clothing in its best condition. Wrinkle-free clothes sell faster.

8. Use Proper Hangers:

  • Hang clothing neatly with the hanger hook facing like a question mark (?).

  • Secure bottoms and skirts with safety pins or clips to the hanger, or to the shirt if it’s a set.

9. Package Small Items:

  • Place small toys, accessories, or baby items in clear Ziploc bags. Seal the bags to prevent loss and tape the tag securely to the outside.

10. Make It Easy to Browse:

  • Attach tags securely and visibly to the right side without taping over barcodes.

  • For toys with many pieces, ensure all pieces are included, placed in ziplock bag and taped to the biggest piece.

Post-Sale Strategy

13. Donate Unsold Items:

14. Learn and Improve:

  • Review what sold well and what didn’t to adjust your strategy for the next sale.
