Youth Ministries
Doing God's work and being a blessing to those they serve.
Youth Ministries Coordinator- Roger Petersen roger@oakgroveumc.org
The Oak Grove Youth Group meets at 5:30 Sunday evenings and starts off with social time and dinner! At 6:00 we break into life groups and discuss various topics that involve our faith journey in our modern world. Discussions with youth leaders are in confidence, and the life group participants help lift each other up during difficult times. We do many fun activities and events.
Youth Sunday School follows a variety of curriculum* that take a present day view of how the Bible can guide our lives today. Part Bible study, part fellowship with games relevant to the lesson. We have a team of amazing teachers, each Sunday may have a different leader. Join us for fun, learning, and worship!
Youth Ministry often uses the highly rated Orange curriculum as a foundation for small
group lessons.

Class of 2023 ~ Senior Recognition
August 13 was a very special day in the life of Oak Grove Youth Ministries as we honored 7 high school seniors who completed their secondary education. Some have been involved in youth ministries for 6 years and others for a short time, but we love them all. As they transition into adulthood, some will go to college and others into the workforce, but either way they go with our prayers that they will continue to hold fast to their faith journey.

Congratulations Paighton Coleman, Chris Midgette, Spencer Peterson, Snowden Barnett, Colby Webber, Joel Corona (not pictured because he already is at Purdue University) and Ava Kosinski (not pictured).
Enjoy this special video tribute to our graduates!
Smith Mountain Lake Retreat - August 2023
Sunset Boat Ride on the Lake. What a day on the water! 1st day at smith mountain lake was a blast! Everyone had a great time! 2nd day at SML. More fun than you can image. Lots of “couch surfing”. Who knew those kids could fly! Another amazing day at SML. Had another great day at SML. It rained this morning. We played a board game, then miniature golf. A beautiful sunset. More jet ski and raft surfing. We even rode the “hot dog”. It was a lot of fun! Another amazing day at SML. A beautiful sunset. More jet ski and raft surfing. The final full day of our youth retreat - gorgeous weather, devotions, and lots of lake time.

Puerto Rico Mission - July 2023
Our OGUMC youth worked on roof replacement and repair at the remote camp we stayed at. Some of the damage was caused by a mud slide and some by deferred maintenance. Also worked on landscaping at the camp and at a disabled local resident’s home, and relational ministry walking through a neighborhood in Ponce handing out beans and rice and when requested praying for local residents down on their luck.
