Small Groups and
Sunday School

Oak Grove has a variety of diverse groups to help you further your study!

Join us for fellowship, Bible study, and prayer!

Journey Class

Teachers: Various class members
Time & Location: 9:45a.m. in Room 236

Description:  We believe Sunday School is an important part of our faith journey, leading and directing us to be better followers of Christ.

We welcome all, wherever you are in your journey towards Jesus. Come and receive prayer. Come and experience authentic community. Come and discover Jesus together with us as we study the Bible and various books from Christian authors.

We gain as much insight from the questions & discussions as we do from the books; interspersed with laughter and fellowship.  Our goal is to have learned something which leads us closer to the Lord. Everyone is welcome.

YANSY (Young And Not So Young)
Sunday- 9:30 a.m. Room 232
Leader Carol Avenson

avensoncarol@gmail.com

The YANSY Class (Young and Not So Young) is a group of welcoming and caring people. We care about each other and participate in church and community missions.   A typical class begins with a time of sharing joys, prayers, and concerns before an opening prayer.  Several class members share the job of facilitating lessons.  Our lessons include a video and lively discussion.  Our current six-week study is Unshakable Hope:  Building Our Lives on the Promises of God by Max Lucado.  Other recent studies have been by John Ortberg, Adam Hamilton, and Rick Warren. Age range of group members: 40s to 90s.

Ludie E Williamson
Sunday- 9:45a.m. in the library
Leader J. Wayne Abernathy

LEW is the longest running class at Oak Grove UMC.   The founding namesake Ludie Etheridge Williamson was a member of two of the original founding families.  Her family farm is the city arboretum, (the old Williamson farm).  The class has dwindled in size in the recent years but still has very up to date bible based studies.  We currently have 4 regular members, but are always looking for more. We just started our current course of study of the C.S. Lewis book, " The Screwtape letters".  Lewis wrote this book from the point of view of a senior demon writing letters to his nephew a novice Demon trying to steal souls for the Father Below.
We are covering about 1 letter each week. So, If you are interested in a spiritual Journey with Demons under every tree and around every corner, (and a fun small class), feel free to stop in and add to our chats. (Wayne tends to bring home made treats to class!)
Age range of group members is 50 to 80, (it started like YANSY, young and not so young) so any adult young or old can enjoy this class.

Sunday Youth Life Groups
Sunday- 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Lounge
Leader Roger Peterson roger@oakgroveumc.org

The Oak Grove Youth Group meets at 5:30 Sunday evenings and starts off with social time and some snacks!  At 6:00 p.m. we break into life groups and discuss various topics that involve our faith journey in our modern world.  Not so much a Bible study that we do in Cross Trainers (Sunday School), but we still use the Bible as our guide to addressing the issues of today.  Discussions with youth leaders are in confidence, and the life group participants help lift each other up during difficult times. The curriculum varies, but is focused on present day issues facing teenagers. We do many fun activities and events. We invite you to join us!
Age range of group members: 6th grade through 12th grade.
